New Library e-Resources



Produced by the British Pharmacopoeia Commission Secretariat of the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, the British Pharmacopoeia collects quality standards for UK medicinal products and pharmaceutical substances. It is widely consulted by professionals involved in pharmaceutical research, manufacturing and testing around the globe.

This online version provides full text access to the latest 2015 edition which includes over 3,000 monographs.


Thieme clinical collections contain an extensive assortment of clinical medicine e-books carefully selected to provide users with thorough coverage of all major medical fields. Full-color illustrations, clinical photographs and high resolution radiographs are provided throughout the books.

RefWorks with Focus on Health Sciences Databases

The Medical Library will organise a workshop on RefWorks with Focus on Health Sciences Databases.

 
 
RefWorks is a web-based citation management tool which allows you to create your own personal database by importing references from online databases or text files. You can use these references in writing research papers and RefWorks can help to automatically format the paper and the bibliography in seconds.

This workshop will cover both the basic and the advanced functions of RefWorks, with a focus on importing references from PubMed and other health science databases like MEDLINE and CINAHL. You will also learn how to create in-text citations and bibliography of different citation styles (APA, AMA, etc.) in your Word documents.

More Study Carrels Now


To make Library learning space more friendly and supportive to users’ needs, 16 study carrels have been added inside the Medical Library. Installed with lighting and power point, the study carrels provide a quiet atmosphere for private study and self-learning.

Now there are over 200 study carrels in the Medical Library. We will keep working to improve the Library facilities for users.

New Enhancements of Micromedex


Micromedex has released a new interface on 4 Dec which has made some significant enhancements in providing improved efficiency, streamlined searching, and faster access to critical drug information.

 
 
Highlighted features include:
  • Direct access to drug, disease and toxicology content from a single interface
  • Fewer steps and faster access to routine and frequently used features
  • Intuitively designed and refreshed home page
  • One-click access to free mobile apps

2014 Eppendorf & Science Prize for Neurobiology





A young CUHK scientist Dr Ho KO, for his essay "Functional organization of synaptic connections in the neocortex” was awarded runner-up of the 2014 Eppendorf & Science Prize for Neurobiology.
His research has explored the connectivity-function relationship of cortical neuronal networks and their visual response properties. The essay was published in the 31 October issue of Science.

Eppendorf & Science Prize for Neurobiology was established in 2002. The Prize is intended to encourage and support the work of promising young neurobiologists who are not older than 35 years. It is awarded annually to one young scientist for the most for the most outstanding neurobiological research based on methods of molecular and cell biology conducted during the past three years.

2014 Micromedex User Group Meeting at Hong Kong




The Li Ping Medical Library of CUHK is pleased to organize the Micromedex User Group Meeting in conjunction with the Libraries of the University of Hong Kong and Hospital Authority. You are cordially invited to join this event.

In this user group meeting, pharmacists from Taiwan will share their experience of pharmaceutical management system and using Micromedex resources for clinical practice. It offers a good opportunity for pharmacists and pharmacologists of local universities and hospitals, and representatives from Micromedex staff to get together, communicate and share ideas on the clinical use of pharmaceutical resources.
