Library Workshop on ExpertPath & STATdx Image Databases

The Medical Library has arranged with Elsevier to provide a training workshop on two Medical Image Databases. 

ExpertPath, written by renowned pathologists in each specialty, provides comprehensive anatomic and clinical pathology decision support for pathologists. This image database includes 51,000 searchable, high-quality annotated pathology images on over 4,000 topics covering all areas of anatomic and clinical pathology. The images are annotated by experts and are included with key information such as differential lists, ancillary tests, image galleries, and specimen-handling protocols. 

STATdx is a diagnostic decision support tool for radiologists. This comprehensive imaging database includes over 200,000 images, including x-ray, CT, MR and ultrasound images. STATdx provides more than 4,300 diagnoses written by the world’s leading experts in radiology. Each diagnosis module contains key facts, terminology, imaging findings, differential diagnosis, pathology, clinical issues, diagnostic checklist, and selected references.

New Gerontology e-Reources On Trial

Two databases on Gerontology are now available for trial use till 31 Oct 2017. Users are welcome to send their comments to the Library through the evaluation survey.

Ageline 
This database focuses exclusively on issues of aging and the population of people aged 50 years and older. Updated on a weekly basis, AgeLine is the premier online resource for social gerontology research. Subjects include:

Visible Body Mobile Apps Extend Validity Period to 150 Days



The Visible Body mobile apps have further extended their validity period to 150 days.  only every 150 days. 

To continue using the apps after the validity period, you need to validate their access by opening the apps with your mobile device connected with CUHK Wi-Fi network or through VPN at least once every 150 days.

Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE)

The Library has subscribed to new series of the Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE):

 
JoVE Genetics publishes video articles demonstrating experimental approaches to investigate gene function and regulation. This includes methods to study gene expression, mutagenesis, epigenetics, genetic determinants of development, genetic disorders, population genetics and evolution.

JoVE Biochemistry publishes experiments that investigate the structure, function, and interactions of biological molecules. The experiments demonstrate methods to study nucleic acids, proteins, carbohydrates and lipids as well as enzyme function, protein folding, molecular interactions and biochemical reactions.

JoVE Cancer Research illustrates experimental approaches in biomedical research and clinical practice aimed at understanding, detecting, treating and preventing cancer. The video articles in this section demonstrate methods to study the cellular and molecular mechanisms of cancer, animal models of cancer research, development of new therapies and diagnostics, tumor imaging, chemical and radiation treatments, surgical procedures and improvements in therapy.  

JoVE Developmental Biology publishes research methodologies in the field of developmental biology. This includes methods that are used to study biological development in vitro and in vivo at the molecular, cellular, tissue, organ and whole organism levels.

Essentials of Physical Examinations I provides the foundation for performing physical exams by introducing several universal concepts such as inspection, palpation, percussion, and auscultation. Essentials of Physical Examinations II includes more specialized examinations, from abdominal exams, male rectal exam, to breast assessment and evaluation of female pelvic structures.
